Institute presentation

Our department is dedicated to in-depth research on the interdependent relationship between molecular and neurobiological mechanisms related to neurodevelopmental and life-spanning psychiatric disorders using interdisciplinary and translational research strategies and has an extensive track record of excellence in GxE research of behavioural traits. It accommodates core competences with unique methodological portfolios complementary to participating collaborators. A translational research initiative aimed at investigating the epigenetic basis of psychiatric disorders has been established at Maastricht University. It involves a multidisciplinary research team, consisting of (molecular) biologists, bioinformaticians, (neuro)psychiatrists and psychologists, which works in close collaboration with the Division of Molecular Psychiatry, Laboratory of Translational Neuroscience at the University of Wuerzburg. Moreover, several service laboratories providing all the molecular, chemical, computational and animal housing facilities, including a special facility for transgenic animals as well as adequate office space for researchers and technicians, computers, and secretarial assistance/project management is available.
